I find inspiration in the metal, concrete, and natural materials and how together that creates strength, and support for all things. How we all choose to live based on our culture, locations, and resources are very fascinating to me. I believe the structures help define our cultures, and our personal lifestyles. I tend to focus on city life, and unconventional living. Unconventional living for the respect of those who by choice or circumstance live off the “beaten” path. After researching villages in Southeast Asia and finding that due to their environment, culture, and way of life, they live in swamplands above the water in stilted houses. The title reflects the irony of our cultures view as "down on their luck" really is an "upside" for those who out of survival need to live in this way.
