Is It Just Me, or Is Summer Getting Shorter?

Every year, I swear summer break gets shorter. One minute we’re celebrating the last day of school, thinking we have endless time to relax, vacation, finally clean out the kids’ rooms, or just enjoy a slower pace without the daily grind of school schedules. But then—blink—and it’s August. Suddenly we’re back to school supply lists, orientation emails, and syncing calendars for fall.

This summer felt especially fast. Maybe it's because my to-do list included a few new milestones: a new studio, closing a business and moving my daughter to college. Between all the normal summer chaos and these emotional, exciting transitions, it’s no wonder time felt like it was on hyper speed.

I had every intention of slowing down, savoring the little moments, and knocking out some long-postponed home (and art) projects. Some of that happened—but mostly, it was a blur. Still, I’m trying to hold on to the sweet snippets: spontaneous outings and conversations I’ll treasure long after the boxes are unpacked in her apartment.

Maybe time really is moving faster. Or maybe life is just fuller. Either way, I’m learning to soak it in, even as we race into another new season.
